GYS Participates in National Seminar and Steel Construction Supply Chain Exhibition

PT Garuda Yamato Steel (GYS) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the steel construction sector in Indonesia through active participation in the prestigious National Seminar and Steel Construction Supply Chain Exhibition. The event, organized by the Indonesia Society of Steel Construction, took place at Birawa Hall, Bidakara Jakarta, featuring around 30 companies. It served as a crucial platform for industry leaders to discuss the future of steel construction in Indonesia and showcase the latest advancements.

“We are excited to participate in this event and to contribute to the development of the steel construction industry in Indonesia,” stated Tony Taniwan, President Director of PT Garuda Yamato Steel. “Our participation underscores our dedication to enhancing local steel construction capabilities and supporting Indonesia’s infrastructure development.”

Formed in 2024, GYS is a newly established joint venture through strategic collaboration with renowned investors including Yamato Kogyo Co., Ltd, Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd, PT Hanwa Indonesia, and PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk. This powerful partnership combines the expertise and resources of these industry leaders to bolster Indonesia’s steel industry.

GYS was previously known as PT Gunung Garuda, a leading steel producer established in 1987. With a modern plant located in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia, GYS specializes in producing high-quality structural steel products. Its flagship products include H-Beam, IWF, Angle, and Channel

In a groundbreaking development, GYS has introduced seismic grade steel under the brand name ‘Tahan Gempa.’ This advanced steel is engineered for exceptional ductility, allowing significant deformation before fracturing. This property is crucial during seismic events, as it helps absorb and dissipate energy, reducing the risk of catastrophic failure. Additionally, the innovative steel offers excellent weldability, facilitating easier fabrication and construction without compromising structural integrity.

Yamato Kogyo, one of the key investors, brings a wealth of experience and pioneering spirit to the venture. Founded in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan in 1944, Yamato Kogyo has been a leader in using electric arc furnaces for steel manufacturing. With a long history of global expansion, the company entered the U.S. market in 1987, followed by successful ventures in Thailand, South Korea, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam. In 2024, Yamato Kogyo expanded its footprint by investing in GYS in Indonesia, further solidifying its global presence with a group production capacity of around 7 million tons per year. GYS, as a subsidiary, boasts a production capacity of 1 million tons per year.

Participation in the National Seminar and Steel Construction Supply Chain Exhibition underscores GYS’s commitment to excellence and provides strategic opportunities to network with industry leaders and explore potential collaborations. The company’s focus on innovation and sustainability ensures that its products meet the highest standards while contributing significantly to the nation’s infrastructure projects.

“We believe that events like these are crucial for fostering collaboration and innovation within the steel construction industry. By participating in this seminar and exhibition, PT Garuda Yamato Steel is reinforcing its dedication to becoming a leading provider of high-quality structural steel products in Indonesia. We look forward to contributing to the growth and sustainability of the nation’s infrastructure. In addition, we aspire to harness Indonesia’s attractive cost competitiveness not just to flourish within the nation but also to actively contribute to Indonesia’s exports. As a company that integrates Japanese technology into Indonesian-made products, we aim to showcase to the world a Made-in-Indonesia brand that embodies both quality and innovation” concluded Tony.
